Media Advisory: Actian Simplifies and Speeds Data Access With Enterprise Data Marketplace Enhancements

New Feature Enables More Effective Collaboration and Faster Decision-Making

ROUND ROCK, TX – March 3, 2025 – Actian, the data and analytics division of HCLSoftware, announces new Actian enterprise data marketplace features that transform how companies request, access, and manage data workflows. With self-service data access, Actian helps customers democratize data to enable more effective collaboration and make decisions faster while data sharing remains compliant and secure.

According to Gartner® statistics, “51% of organizations will prioritize data fabric mesh implementation in the next two to three years.”1 A key principle of data mesh is decentralization, which shifts data management to domain teams with the deepest contextual understanding of the data. While decentralization enhances flexibility, having data scattered across systems complicates the ability to find and access data across the organization.

The Actian enterprise data marketplace aligns with modern data management principles of domain-oriented ownership, self-service access, data as a product, and consistent governance. The marketplace enables discovery and sharing of data products via an intuitive, e-commerce-like shopping experience to help teams reduce the time to access the data they need. Additionally, the marketplace enables federated governance that leverages domain-specific expertise while adhering to centralized standards.

The new self-service data access feature simplifies how users request and access data assets in the Actian enterprise data marketplace. Data consumers – regardless of their level of technical expertise – may browse and request access to data products. The request embeds essential information such as purpose, intended user, use case and duration. Once submitted, the system automatically notifies the data’s owner of the request, so they can act quickly and provides requesters real-time status updates.

Part of the Actian Data Intelligence Platform, the marketplace builds on the Actian Federated Data Catalog as the metadata foundation that ensures high-value data assets are well-documented, governed, and easily discoverable. Together, the solution provides tools for comprehensive data lineage tracking, automated metadata documentation, and flexible metamodel configurations to fortify strong governance frameworks.

“Managing data access in a large-scale media organization has traditionally been a complex, time-consuming process,” said Mikko Eskola, Chief Data Officer at Sanoma Media Finland. “With the new self-service data access request, we expect to reduce related bottlenecks while maintaining strong governance and security protocols.”

The self-service data access feature is available immediately in the Actian enterprise data marketplace. For more information, read the Actian Advances Data Intelligence Platform news release and the Winter ’25 Launch: Critical Governance Update to Actian Data Marketplaceblog.
